Galeria E.V.A.

At the onset of the pandemic, internationally renowned artist, Veronica Castillo, closed the doors to her gallery, Galeria E.V.A., and opened her patio to the community. In July of 2020, with a modest monetary donation and in collaboration with the First Nations Group of San Antonio, Castillo began feeding the homeless, her neighbors, and the elderly in our community. Since then, she, along with countless volunteers, have served over 4,780 hot meals. In the Fall of 2020, Books in the Barrio became a small part of this project. Each week, we come together to participate in a practice that is not only rooted in tradition and love but also invites us to slow down, to share stories, to collectively shoulder our responsibility to each other and to madre tierra. As Castillo often says, this work will not stop; it is only beginning.
