Terra Advocati is proud to announce the award of a grant from the Alice Kleberg Reynolds Foundation to support the Huertos Familiares project at Galeria E.V.A. This funding will be leveraged alongside the resources provided by the San Antonio Office of Sustainability, amplifying the impact of this unique initiative that combines art, culture, and regenerative agriculture on the Southside of San Antonio.
Huertos Familiares is not only an urban market garden; it’s a living artwork designed to transform Galeria E.V.A.’s outdoor space into a place where nature, community, and culture intersect.
Founded by Indigenous artist Veronica Castillo, Galeria E.V.A. has long been a hub for creative expression, and this project continues that legacy by incorporating the aesthetics of traditional Mexican and Indigenous design into a functional, biodiverse landscape.
The garden will be a space for artistic and cultural exchange, where community members gather to learn about food production, share in the preparation of traditional meals, and celebrate the beauty of regenerative practices.
The project will feature a pollinator habitat and native plants that not only support biodiversity but also serve as artistic expressions of ecological harmony. Additionally, through workshops on traditional food preparation and garden design, Huertos Familiares will highlight the deep connections between art, food, and community regeneration.
A big thanks to our current and future collaborators on this project, including San Antonio Office of Sustainability, a Todo Dar Productions, UTSA/ SPC Coalition for Regenerative Ecologies and Agriculture (CREA), and Urban Bird Project.
