Vetiver Propagation Efforts

Updated: Feb 6, 2022

Today we are ramping up our efforts to propagate Vetiver grass both in Mexico and in Texas. A Big thanks to Steven Lewis for helping propagate so many in his own backyard garden. We look to move this operation out to the research center in El Chino as soon as the infrastructure is in place to do so.

After months of research, and being fortunate enough to have the resources provided on Vetiver.org, we have decided that Vetiver will be key to restoration on many fronts in almost every project we are currently involved with.

We believe that Vetiver Systems can be a tool for us to regenerate degraded ecosystems, and we look forward to experimenting with these systems in the Tamasopo Valley, as well as on smaller scales in the Texas Hill Country, Xilitla region of Huasteca Potosina, and in Guerrero.

These initial experiments will also help us multiply the number of plants we currently have, which will allow us to provide Vetiver to others in need of their own systems as interest, and the need for reliable sources grows.

Vetiver Systems can mitigate erosion, drastically increase soil porosity, infiltration, as well as create natural terraces, and so much more. The list of uses really is so extensive that we will just refer you to Vetiver.org if you are interested in learning more.

We look forward to providing a roadmap for our Vetiver projects and programs in early 2022. Stay tuned for updates!
